Mark Valenti on Jim Braden

 Mark Valenti writes –

The book is shaping up but I'm still looking for connective tissue with a few items. I want to match Brading's known movements over the years with known Mob activity, police hustles and even some political stuff that was taking place at the same time.

I also need corroboration for a few things concerning Joe Shimon and Brading's time in New Orleans.

I've been attempting to run down Brading's records from his time in jail in the late 50s but I've hit a bureaucratic brick wall. I need those records to complete the picture.

I know Brading and Pereira ran gambling dens for the mob over the years - they were reliable money, slick and for a while, untouchable. They hit towns where the police were on the take, so they operated with impunity. The mob loved those guys, so much so that Brading became a money courier for Lansky, even with him traveling to Switzerland.

I'm chasing two other individuals who performed the same services for the Mob, whose stories are somewhat similar to Brading's. That can help me nail down exactly how he operated.

But Brading ended up in the slammer for a number of years, during which he kept in close contact with several key mob-affiliated individuals. I'm trying to find out more about who he was in contact with in those years, because when he came out, he was set up in high style in Beverly Hills, and he came and went as he pleased, even rubbing shoulders with J. Edgar Hoover in San Diego. He was a connected guy.

I believe he was in Dallas to make payments to key players, regardless of whether or not he knew the reason for the payments. As you know, he was in the same place at the same time TWICE in one day as Jack Ruby was, the day before the assassination. Demonstrating that would prove foreknowledge on the part of the Mob, which would go a long way toward an understanding of how the event went down.

My research has shown:

* Brading and George deMohrenschildt were both in the oil fields of Colorado and Wyoming at the same time in the 50s - very near each other. It beggars belief that they didn't run in the same circles - everyone knew everyone in those days.

* Michael Paine worked in the same area at the same time for a short while.

* Someone named Jack Ruby financed the scam of some of Brading's colleagues during this period.

* When Brading was arrested as a young man, his lawyer was also Al Capone's lawyer.

* He made several trips to Cuba and met up with high roller gamblers associated with the Mob.

* He was an informant to none other than crooked cop Joe Shimon, who later became an intimate colleague of Johnny Roselli and Sam Giancana, and who knew a great deal about JFK's troublesome security just before the assassination.

* Brading's pal Victor Pereira was an FBI informant.

* Brading once lived in the same apartment complex in Beverly Hills as the one Marilyn Monroe lived in.

* Brading's colleague Roger Bauman was an associate of HL Hunt for years. Bauman is the man Brading flew into Dallas with.

* He spent time on a farm in McHenry Illinois that was deeply connected to the Mob.

* Brading was intimately involved with the widow of a principal member of Magnolia Oil in Dallas. Of course Magnolia Oil is a hub of JFK-related people.

* When Brading was in jail, one of his fellow inmates was Benny Binion, the famous Dallas gambling boss.

* Another connected inmate at that time was James Henry Dolan, who has been linked to Brading though Dolan's own child

* Another inmate at the time was LA mob boss Mickey Cohen.

* While in jail, Brading kept in close contact with the Smalldone mob brothers.

* Brading was in close proximity to David Ferrie in New Orleans --

* Brading and Ferrie ended up within minutes of each other in Houston in the days following the assassination.

* Brading lied about being in bed with his wife in Los Angeles in June, 1968. They had split up months previously.

Beyond all that, Brading avoided telling the truth during his testimony - he conveniently forgot things and when called on them, he would suddenly remember, but he was adept at shading the truth so that his true whereabouts during specific times was nearly impossible to track.

He lied about who he knew, where he was, what he was doing and how he got there.

Sam Giancana

Thanks to Dr. Cyril Wecht for tipping me off about an upcoming movie about Sam Giancana's role in the assassination.

He certainly had a role but was not the mastermind or the one who ordered the hit, as some of his relations maintain.

Giancana comes into the assassination picture as one of those contacted by CIA officer James O'Connell during the Eisenhower administration and asked to assist the CIA in murdering Fidel Castro.

At first I"Connelly went to Robert Mahu in Las Vegas for advice and Mahu directed him to Johnny Rosselli, the original dapper don. Rosselli represented the Chicago mobs interests in California and Vegas, and said he had to get permission from his boss, Sam Giancana.

Giancana suggested they bring in Tampa,Florida boss Santo Traficante, who also ran the rackets in Havana before Castro took over, and still had contacts there.

At first they planned to poison Castro, passing on the poison pills and $10,000 in cash to an employee of a Havana restaurant where Castro frequented. That never happened.

Them O'Connell was replaced as Rosselli's CIA case officer by William Harvey, head of the Cuban Task Force W and the ZR-RIFLE assassination project.

Both big drinkers they became  friends and remained so until Rosselli was killed.

They cut out Traficante and Giancana, and turned to killing Castro with high powered rifles instead of poison. Harvey had Rosselli work on strategy with the anti-Castro Cuban commandos run out of JMWAVE in Florida, where Rosselli was given the cover of an Army officer known as "Colonel Rawlins."

There were a number of teams, one led by Julio Fernandez, and trained by US Army Ranger Captain Bradley Ayers, who was cross posted to the CIA by General Brute Krulack. That team, trained at Pirates Lair in the Everglades, was also financially supported by Clare Boothe Luce.

Another team and boat crew were supported by William Pawley, of Flying Tigers fame, who used his own boat in the Bayo-Pawley mission that included Rosselli's good friend John Martino and CIA cowboy Rip Robertson.

Another team was supported by Rosselli was trained by US Army Ranger Capt. Edward Roderick, John I.F. Harper and Carl Jenkins. They were trained as snipers at Point Mary, then a remote area off of Key Largo.

Together they were known as the Pathfinders, as they were originally assembled and trained to infiltrate Cuba before the Bay of Pigs.

During the Cuban Missile Crisis in October of 1962, Harvey sent some of the Pathfinders into Cuba, and when Robert Kennedy learned this he called them back, fired Harvey and replaced him with Desmond FitzGerald.

Harvey was sent to be the CIAs man in Rome, where James Jesus Angleton had served in the OSS during WW2 and Clare Luce Booth had been ambassador. Harvey remained Rosselli's case officer and maintained contact with him.

They reportedly met for the last time in June, 1963 in Florida, where Harvey picked up the tab for their winning, dining and hotel rooms, paying it on the ZR-RIFLE assassination account.

There was a pause in the CIA plotting to kill Castro, not only because JFK had "disapproved" the Pathfinder plan to kill Castro by shooting him in the head as he drove by in an open jeep, and Kennedy and Castro were engaged in back channel negotiations at the UN, but for another reason.

As John Newman has pointed out, Castro had to be alive on November 22, 1963 as he was to be blamed for the assassination of JFK as part of the cover story and deception.

The CIA-Mafia plots to kill Castro remained a secret, even from the Warren Commission, though Allen Dulles was the head of CIA when O'Connell began them during the Eisenhower administration.

They remained secret until Jack Anderson revealed them in a syndicated Washington Merry-go-round column as a protege of Drew Pearson. Anderson's source was Johnny Rosselli.

Giancana said that their participation in the CIA plots to kill Castro would end with their deaths, and he was murdered shortly before he was to testify before a Congressional Committee. Shot in the back of the head while he cooked sausages in his basement, he must have known and trusted his killer, a still unsolved homicide.

Rosselli testified twice, in secret, but then immediately visited Jack Anderson, who shared DC office space with lobbyists and fixer I. Irving Davidson.

Rosselli told Anderson he helped train the commandos out of the CIA JMWAVE station, and they were sent in, infiltrated Cuba to kill Castro, but were captured, tortured, and turned, and returned to kill JFK in Dallas.

I believe, as some of the Pathfinders admitted to Gene Wheaton, that they were paid and trained to kill Castro but redirected their fire to JFK in Dallas.

Not long afterwards, Rosselli went out on a boat with some people he must have known, and trusted, and was tortured, killed, dismembered, and stuck in an oil barrell that was found floating in a bay. A still unsolved homicide today.

So Giancana, through Rosselli, played a part in the CIA-Mafia plots to kill Castro, that led to JFKs murder, and were murdered themselves for their roles and breaking their oath of omerta by exposing the plots, it was Rosselli who had a larger role with the anti-Castro Cubans who carried out the operation.

Questions re: Volkmar Schmidt

 Hello Mr. Kelly,

I am an ordinary citizen just turned 70 so I was 11 when the assassination happened. It has interested me ever since. I have read most books on the lone nut side of things and found those on the conspiracy side of things rather "out there". I am willing to listen but will require proof. This is however not to engender a debate but to ask you some very specific questions regarding Mr. Schmidt. I was very excited to read your interview with him. Largely because, according to the Frontline Documentary he and Oswald connected  at the party in early 63

I have always thought that Mr Oswalds motives for killing Kennedy were as follows.

1. His desire to change history and be famous

BK: If this were true he would not have denied committing the crime. You can't get around that.

2. His idolization of Fidel Castro* and anger at Kennedy regarding his policies directed at Cuba and Castro.

BK: Oswald was never angry at Kennedy. According to Marina and Ruth and Michael Paine and George deMohrenschildt, he greatly admired JFK.

3. His anger and resentment at Marina for rejecting him multiple times that Thursday.

BK: He did not hold anger or resentment against Marina. They had a tempermental relationship that overcame many problems. He had more money at that time than I have most of the time, shared it with Marina, and talked to her about buying shoes for the girls.

* wanting to name his unborn child Fidel, writing to the FPCC and asking for a photo "suitable for framing would be a nice touch".  Suggesting he hijack an airliner to get to Cuba to fight for Castro.

BK: These are all tidbits that were developed as part of the very well documented black prop op disinformation campaign, begun before the assassination, to blame the murder on Oswald and Castro.

My question to you sir is; In an FBI interview (affidavit)? just a few days after the assassination  Mr. Schmidt disclaimed any knowledge of any disparaging remarks by Oswald about Kennedy in their two hour chat at the party. Why would he lie?

BK: To save his skin. For the same reason Mr. White refused to deal with the FBI and Dallas Police after seeing the accused assassin in Carl Mather's car near the scene of the murder of his good friend J.D. Tippit,  Mr. Ochus Campbell told a reporter that he saw Oswald on the first floor when he reentered the building immediately after the shooting - they realized, especially after the murder of Oswald, that this was a very serious game and lives were at stake.

Do you think he was afraid of being blamed for not reporting Oswald, as indeed he blames Mr. De Mohrenschildt ?

Did you find Mr. Schmidt credible?

BK: Yes.

He seemed very sincere and genuine in the candor with which he spoke. (even if he did throw a few people under the bus).

BK: The key aspects of his conversation with me is the fact that he was raised by German Dr. Keutemeyer, who was associated with two of the German military officers who plotted to kill Hitler in the July 20, 1944 Valkyrie assassination attempt, and used a "reverse psychology" technique taught to him by Keutemeyer on Oswald in discussing Walker, and suggesting that Walker should be killed as Hitler should have been. This was also related to Marina, and on the back of one of the Backyard Photos given to deMohrenschildt, she wrote "Hunter of Fascists! Ha, Ha."  This of course dovetails with the briefing Desmond FitzGerald gave the Joint Chiefs of Staff on September 25, 1963, telling them the CIA was "studying in detail" the July 20, 1944 German military plot to kill Hitler in order to utilize against Castro. When a FOIA request was made to the CIA for that "detailed study," they couldn't find it.

Did you ever have any follow up with him?

BK: No

Thank You

Rick Smoot

More on Gene Wheaton

 Dear Bill Kelly,

Dear Bill Kelly,

I would like to ask you if you believe that Carl Jenkins plotted the assassination of JFK? I asked John Simkin a while ago and he said that he did. But I am skeptical as to why Gene Wheaton said these things, because how likely is it that Jenkins would ever admit it?

If you are currently researching more into Wheaton, I would love to hear updates on the case, and whether or not it is possible to get to the bottom of it.

Kind Regards,
Henry Yang.

Henry,

I believe most of what Wheaton says, but Jenkins was only one of a number of top covert operatives who could have arranged the assassination operation at Dealey Plaza. The others are Rip Robertson, William Harvey, Desmond FitzGerald, James Angleton and a few others. Jenkins is a strong suspect however.

We have documents that support what Wheaton says - that mention Jenkins as being in charge of the JEMWAVE Pathfinder plan to kill Castro with high powered rifle attack as he rode in an open jeep on the way to the duPont estate in Veradero.

That is the plan I believe was redirected to JFK at Dealey Plaza.

Jenkins said he was out of country at the time, but that could be what Wheaton described as  Diagonese in action.

More on Wheaton and Jenkins coming.
