4. President Kennedy’s administration was badly fractured
over his efforts to end the Cold War, including his back-channel peace feelers
to the Soviet Union and Cuba and his plan to withdraw U.S. troops from Vietnam
after the 1964 presidential election.
Even JFK's advisor and historian Arthur Schlesinger said that if the anti-Castro Cubans knew JFK was engaging in backchannel negotiations with Castro to restore diplomatic relations it would have been enough motive for them to kill him, and that's what many people think they did. At least they are a big part of the equazion. And now we know that the anti-Castro Cubans were informed of JFK's backchannel negotiations with Castro and his bid to end the Cold War by JFK's Republican ambassador to Vietnam Henry Cabot Lodge.
