Point Ten of Ten Points of Agreement

10.       The JFK assassination was just one of four major political murders that traumatized American life in the 1960s and have cast a shadow over the country for decades thereafter. John F. Kennedy, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert F. Kennedy were each in his own unique way attempting to turn the United States away from war toward disarmament and peace, away from domestic violence and division toward civil amity and justice. Their killings were together a savage, concerted assault on American democracy and the tragic consequences of these assassinations still haunt our nation.

At first I didn't see a connection between the four major assassinations, but then I came to realize that it was only because the murder of Medgar Evers was not properly investigated allowed President Kennedy to be assassinated, and because those responsible for what happened at Dealey Plaza went free, Malcolm X, MLK and RFK were killed, and their assassins went free.

Their killings were a savage, concerted assault on American democracy, and while Justice may never be achieved, we can come to know the truth about these events, and force the government to admit its involvement in the cover-up, if not the murders themselves.

And it was because the killers of a President, a Senator, and civil rights leaders went free and even uninvestigated and unaccounted for, that many hundreds if not thousands of others were killed and their killers not held accountable for their crimes. That's why the Cold Case Civil Rights Records Act is so important, and this joint effort is so significant, and why everyone should get behind it.
